Illustrated t.p. depicts three balloons ("Enterprise," "Resolute" and "Discovery") preparing for an Arctic flight under a night sky with stars and mountains. A ship is at the ice floe edge and teams of men are shown in the foreground using coal burners to produce gas for the balloons. One uses a flag to send semaphore messages back to the ship and another holds a telescope. Other men and sled dogs gather in the background. Signed "Alfred Concanen lith". Lithography company: "Stannard & Son."
Publisher's advertisement on verso of p. 7 gives melody incipits for songs in: Madame Favart : opera comique in three acts / English adaptation by H.B. Farnie ; music by J. Offenbach. Incipits are as follows: The first meeting. The calendar of Bacchus. Mountain song. The novice. The artless thing. The lover's comedy. Dear old dad. The débutante. The two Eves. Puff. The ladies' pet. Au revoir!. Conjure not. An old woman's dream. The pedlar's song. 'Tis not in number. Advertisement gives list of "Pianoforte Arrangements" and "Dance Music."
